Poetry Notebooks
Your child will bring home a poetry notebook. In it, you will find a poem and a comment sheet. Your child's job is to read the poem at least four times (it can be to the same person) throughout the week. On your child's assigned day, your child will read the poem out loud to the class. In order to read the poem, the comment sheet must be filled out.
The object of this exercise is to increase fluency and confidence speaking in front of the class, both important skills. If your child has the comment sheet filled out, he or she will be able to choose a new poem for the next week. If not, they will be asked to read the poem glued in their notebook the following week.
